Ed Pettersen is first and foremost a folk singer, schooled in the same Greenwich village venues and haunts from which modern folk music
as we know it sprung. His latest release The New Punk Blues of Ed Pettersen plays on the titles of sixties folk/roots icons The New Folk Sound of Terry Callier and The Real Folk Blues by Muddy Waters,
while acknowledging that his own folk songs often incorporate an edgier note to them. Pettersen’s songwriting credits range from the country line-dance charting DWIOU to his latest cover on soul legend's Bettye LaVette new record. Active in Nashville as a producer as well, Pettersen's current production is an extraordinary homage to traditional American music.
The Song of America, a unique 50-song, three-CD set tells the history of our country through song, from 1492 through modern times, and features such artists as John Mellencamp, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Martha Wainwright, the brothers Robinson (of The Black Crowes), and Andrew Bird, among others.

Queen of Southern Soul Candi Staton has been in the studio recently recording for her latest project. Shortly after sending along the recently penned tune I Don't Want for Anything, Ed got word that Candi has cut the track.

Ed has the final track on the 2008 Grammy nominated Bettye LaVette record Scene of the Crime.
Ed's song I Guess We Shouldn't Talk About That Now, co-written with Kim McLean, closes out Bettye's terrific new record. "Thanks Bettye!"
